Once upon a time there was no Skye Bridge, and in fact it is a fairly recent connection between Kyleakin on Skye to Kyle of Lochalsh on the mainland. The bridge is both elegant and strong. At first it was the most expensive toll bridge in the UK but as of December 2004, tolls have been removed from the bridge due to a long fight by the Skat Skye anti-toll group.
